Innocent: Right or Wrong?

Talked with friend about one thing that a person did for me, but I didn't tried to do something for her about that. So been commented by her and said, "You should give her something as she helped you before, if not you'll always owe her a thank-you gift." I never thought that situation, from her words, I felt guilty about what I had did for the past.

But... What's the problem to be an innocent person? Can't we just say thank you after someone did help you? Is it compulsory to give something to that person so that it'll looks like a formal appreciation? I really appreciated of what anyone did for me, no matter that is good or bad. It made me to become better person. Can't I just appreciate it in my deep heart?

I had been so emo afterward. Although my friend apologized of what she said after she saw my tears dropped down, but I just cannot accept the fact. I cannot accept the apology.

I feel I'm the stupidest in this world ;(
